The Legacy of

Megan Marie Lopez

Megan was born October 18th, 1996, at Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside, California. Her first years of life were complex to say the least. She was born premature and weighed in at a mere 4 pounds. The sweet baby that Bob and Carrie had waited so patiently on was rushed to the NICU before anyone could hold her. She would be placed into an incubator receiving nourishment from a feeding tube.

At the age of  2, she was diagnosed with a severe rotavirus that nearly took her from us. She would have to relearn simple motor skills like walking. The challenges made Megan the resilient human that she would grow up to be.

Bob and Carrie were truly blessed with their little family. Megan had persistence, she was bubbly, outgoing, and vivacious. She was funny and silly at times and simply like no other. She was fearless. She was a Beaumont Bear, a Viper from one of the first classes out of  Vista Magnet, and she is an alumnus of Rancho Buena Vista High School. She played volleyball though she was barely tall as the bottom of the net. She excelled in gymnastics which eventually would lead her to one of her greatest passions, dancing. She was constantly practicing the splits or a new step in a routine. In every aspect she was a California kid.

She appreciated a good sunset, she had a hunger to read, and listening to her favorite music. She treasured her time in the desert with all of her family spending endless days covered in Ocotillo Wells dirt. She was a bad ass who had been riding a dirt bike before most kids learned to tie their shoes. Her Papa, Grandpa Rod, taught her the RIGHT way to ride and to respect the desert. She grew up with two ridiculously overprotective brothers and a strict dad that needed her to take care of them more than she needed them to watch out for her. She may have been the only girl her senior year of high school wearing shorts under her dresses per her daddy's rules.

Bob instilled in her that boys were off limits,  and he had his watch dogs, Robert and Jordan, looking out for her at all times. Megan held a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu and could handle any guy or her brothers if necessary. If you talked to Megan, you better be ready for an interrogation assisted by a Jiu-Jitsu choke hold.

One of Megan's most endearing gifts was the value she saw in family. Two of her most favorite people were her two brothers, Robert and Jordan. The relationship the three of them shared was a true example of sibling love and friendship. She had a special relationship with her sister-in-law Serina, niece Kaya, and nephew Kage. She made a point to be present in their lives and looked forward to spending time with them as often as possible.

Then there was Dean. The love of her life. They met through mutual friends on Facebook. Dean tried multiple times to get her attention, but she was quick to shut him down. He was persistent though and eventually Megan gave in. From there, there was no looking back. They were inseparable. They loved being together and things naturally happened quickly. They got engaged in England on the London Eye on June 1st, 2016, while visiting his grandparents. They had similar interests and had a plan worked out for when they both graduated college. Two days before Megan passed, her and Dean, were starting to plan their wedding to take place in 2023. It is beyond words what those two shared.

Megan was an outstanding student through High School. This continued at Mira Costa Community College where she obtained two AA degrees. One in Behavioral Science and the other in Psychological Science. She really wanted to make a difference in this world and had no problem putting in the work to succeed. When attending California State University of San Marcos, she was a permanent fixture on the honor roll and received her Bachelor of Science Degree with honors in Psychology posthumously. Her grades showed how much of a passion she had to help others. Her family recognized the hard work she put in and admired her for it. She is truly a role model to the next generation in her family.

Megan was overwhelmed by a calling to assist those with mental illness, autism, and PTSD. Megan wanted to start her own Psychology practice because she was intrigued by the human brain and how it worked. She had compassion in a field that is often misunderstood. Megan chose to help sometimes the most vulnerable and misunderstood of people. It saddens everyone in the family that we will never see the impact her work would have had in this world.

On January 29, 2022 Megan was tragically taken from this world due to the lack of Offroad  Safety Awareness.

This is the reason Megan's Legacy Foundation for Offroad Safety Awareness was created.

Never take a moment for granted and above all enjoy the little things.
